Description
The RYA Essential Navigation and Seamanship course introduces key principles of navigation and safety. This course is ideal for dinghy sailors, keel boaters, powerboaters, jet ski riders and SCUBA divers, it provides a solid foundation for safe and confident coastal travel.
Instructors deliver the course either online or in the classroom, and each format includes at least 16 hours of instruction.
The RYA Essential Navigation and Seamanship course complements the RYA Powerboat Level 2 Course. Also, this course supports those starting sea kayaking or other coastal water sports. It offers the same level of training as the Coastal Navigation and Tidal Planning course (CNTP).

Throughout the course, we dive into the following topics:

- Safety Engine checks

- Visual & Electronic navigation
- Weather forecasts
Each section ends with a quiz to reinforce understanding. Students who successfully complete all topics will receive a certificate.
RYA Interactive Course Access Details
Online learners access the course through RYA Interactive, hosted by Learning Pool. Your name and email are used to create your account, and you’ll be asked to provide your address and date of birth. You’ll have 12 months of access to complete the course.
Your personal data is shared with the RYA and Wavelength Training Ltd for course management and certification. After one year from your last login, your account will be removed. Full data protection details are available on RYA Interactive.
