Description
Become a certified RYA Powerboat Instructor at Wavelength Training—ideal for experienced powerboaters ready to teach others with confidence and clarity.
Pre-requisites:
Before joining the RYA Powerboat Instructor Course, candidates must complete the RYA Powerboat Instructor Skills Assessment, which we schedule prior to the course.
You’ll also need:
- A valid First Aid certificate
- The RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate
- A completed health declaration form or medical questionnaire
- Five seasons of logged powerboating experience (ideally across various boat types and sizes),
or one season if powerboating is a core part of your full-time occupation
Course Structure
Day 1 – 2: Focus on instructional techniques and how to deliver the RYA Powerboat syllabus effectively. You’ll teach segments of the syllabus under trainer guidance, gaining hands-on experience in both classroom and on-water settings.
Day 3: Moderation A second RYA Trainer joins to assess consistency and provide an external perspective. You’ll continue teaching and receive feedback to ensure national standards are met.
Throughout the course, candidates will:
- Deliver a short classroom presentation on a pre-prepared topic
- Run practical sessions afloat, using topics from the RYA Powerboat Logbook (G20)—reflecting real-world scenarios instructors commonly face
