Description
The RYA CEVNI Test (Code Européen des Voies de Navigation Intérieure) is a short, multiple-choice assessment designed to ensure boaters understand the rules and signage used on inland waterways across Europe.
If you’re planning to cruise rivers, canals, or lakes in countries such as France, Germany, or the Netherlands, passing the CEVNI test is a legal requirement for obtaining an International Certificate of Competence (ICC) with inland endorsement.
What is covered in the test?
The RYA CEVNI Test is based on the official RYA CEVNI Handbook, which we recommend studying in advance. It is taken online and typically takes around 30 minutes to complete.
Key topics include:
- Visual signs and symbols (buoys, boards, lights)
- Sound signals and communication protocols
- Navigation rules and priorities
- Safety and conduct on inland waterways
- Environmental responsibilities
