Description
The RYA Essential Navigation and Seamanship course provides a basic awareness and understanding of navigation and safety. This course is ideal for dinghy sailors, keel boaters, powerboaters, jet ski riders and SCUBA divers. Courses can be run online or alternatively in the classroom over a minimum of 16 hours.
It is an excellent addition to the RYA Powerboat Level 2 Course or alternatively, for instance, those taking up sea kayaking, or other coastal water sports. The RYA Essential Navigational and Seamanship course is equivalent to the Coastal Navigation and Tidal Planning course (CNTP).

In this course, we will look at the following topics:
- Anchoring
- Buoyage
- Charts and Publications
- Passage planning
- Pilotage
- Rules of the road (Collision Regulations or Coll Regs)
- Safety Engine checks
- Tidal awareness
- Visual & Electronic navigation
- Weather forecasts
These topics then have a quiz at the end of each section to ensure that the student understands the subject, upon successful completion of all the topics, the student is issued with a certificate.
RYA Interactive Course Access Details
To enable access to the RYA Essential Navigation and Seamanship course, we share some of your personal data with the RYA via your user profile in RYA Interactive. This online learning portal is hosted and maintained by a third party (Learning Pool), which will not use your personal information for any reason other than enabling your course.
Your name and email address will be entered on RYA Interactive in order to create your user account. When you first access the site, you will be asked to enter your address and date of birth.
After this, you will have access to the site for one year to complete the RYA Essential Navigation and Seamanship course. Your personal information will be held on the RYA interactive site during this period. This data will be available to this training centre (Wavelength Training) and the RYA for the purpose of managing your course.
Once you have completed your course, your name, email address, date of birth and address will be transferred to the RYA for the purpose of recording details of the course.
This information will allow the RYA to record your certification, update any records they already hold about you or your qualifications and secondly, to verify your certificate if required. However, after one year from the date of your last login, your user account will be removed from RYA Interactive.

Minimum requirements:
A PC or Mac with internet access is required for the course with Speakers/headphones. Additionally, Pop-ups must be enabled for the site.
